A food drive in Detroit supports families of the detained and deported

Some families in Southwest Detroit who have had members detained or deported because of immigration issues are receiving help this holiday season.

Laura Chavez led what she calls The Day of Impact on Dec. 12, gathering food donations and connecting with volunteers to provide crates of fresh food to the needy with a focus on families who’ve lost their breadwinners because of the immigration roundups.
