Black church leaders discuss their top 2024 priorities for their congregations and community | American Black Journal

This Week on American Black Journal:

Heading into 2024, the “Black Church in Detroit” series examines the focus areas, issues and opportunities that lie ahead in the new year for leaders of Detroit’s Black churches.

Host Stephen Henderson leads a thought-provoking conversation with three Detroit ministers: Pastor Ovella Davis of Always in Jesus’ Presence Ministries, Rev. QuanTez Pressley from Third New Hope Baptist Church, and Pastor Barry Randolph of Church of the Messiah.

The discussion includes a focus on increasing outreach to those individuals who are unchurched to bring them back to the church, reinforcing the purpose of the church in order to change negative perceptions, and strengthening the church’s connection with young people.

The group also talks about the importance of getting out the vote for the 2024 presidential election, informing congregants and the community about the power of their vote, and making sure people are registered and educated about the candidates.

Additionally, the ministers offer their thoughts on the Black church stepping in to meet the real needs of the community, eradicating gun violence and other crimes in the city, and the importance of collaboration between churches to bring about change.
