A boost for Rivian?

Plymouth-based Rivian, maker of electric pick-up trucks and sports utility vehicles planned to hit the market in the next two years. They could have General Motors and Amazon as stakeholders, according to a report from Reuters this week.

Detroit Public Television’s One Detroit and Daily Detroit’s Sven Gustafson took a look at some of Rivian’s pre-production models last month.

The company has been working on concepts for ten years and made its debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show late last year.

Rivian CEO R.J. Scaringe told Gustafson, “We wanted to make sure we weren’t just showing an idea or a sketch or a rendering, we were showing a proper vehicle fully engineered and had all the pieces together to deliver that.”

With the company close to production with an assembly plant in Illinois, the report said G.M. and Amazon might be injecting up to two billion dollars into the operation as minority stakeholders.
