Disney’s “The Lion King” is back at the Detroit Opera House

Disney’s “The Lion King,” the world’s number one musical, has returned to the Detroit Opera House for its sixth residency. It runs through April 5.
One Detroit contributor Stephen Henderson of American Black Journal sits down with two cast members: Zama Magudulela, who plays Rafiki, and Thembelihle Cele, who plays Nala. The two South African actors talk about what it means to be part of a show that celebrates their home country, culture and languages. Both have toured with “The Lion King” for several years, and they share their thoughts on the impact the musical has on audiences around the world. They also talk about the characters they portray in the show and explain how the musical has a universal message.
