Aired Wednesday, May 13, 2020

With policymakers paying increased attention to the importance of early education for all young children, HighScope and Detroit PBS are partnered in this important livestream event. The virtual conversation between HighScope’s Chief Research Innovation Officer Iheoma U. Iruka, PhD, and Stacey Abrams, political leader and New York Times bestselling author, was  moderated by Chastity Pratt, a fellow at the Nieman Foundation for Journalism at Harvard University.

This virtual conversation explored:

  • The importance of high-quality early childhood education to economic prosperity in the United States and what policymakers can do to create a cohesive education system for all young children.
  • How citizens can engage with local and federal policymakers to address the issue of inadequate compensation for early childhood professionals.
  • How to provide equitable access to education for young children from underserved, low-income, and ethnic minority families and communities.
