How one woman’s breast cancer diagnosis served as a call to action for Black women
Oct 3, 2025
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Lisa Whitmore Davis is the founder and executive producer of a documentary titled “The Whitmore Project.” She explains how the film chronicles her personal health journey after receiving a breast cancer diagnosis. Now cancer-free, Davis reflects on her treatment and recovery, the challenges of working through health disparities, and the importance of knowing your family medical history.
Davis talks about how she hopes the film will help others, especially Black women, navigate through their health challenges.
A public screening of “The Whitmore Project,” along with a health and resource fair, will take place on October 4 at Wayne County Community College District Northwest Campus in Detroit.
