Nov 14, 2025

Brandon Victor Dixon, a Grammy Award winner and three-time Tony Award nominee, will be in Detroit Nov. 15 for “Cabaret 313: An Evening with Brandon Victor Dixon.”

Dixon is known for roles in “Hamilton,” “Jesus Christ Superstar Live,” “The Color Purple,” “Motown The Musical,” and the recent Broadway hit “Hell’s Kitchen,” Dixon brings both technical mastery and deep humanity to every performance.

In this interview with One Detroit contributor Haley Taylor of 90.9 WRCJ, Dixon reflects on his creative evolution.  He discusses how storytelling, whether through music, theater, or television, allows him to explore the shared emotional language that connects audiences across generations. He also talks about his creative process in bringing characters to life on the stage and screen, the importance of art in bridging communities, and offers advice to young artists.

As he prepares for an intimate evening of song at The Cube at the DSO Max M. and Marjorie S. Fisher Music Center in Detroit, Dixon shares what it means to return to the stage not just as a performer, but as a vessel for connection and hope. Through Broadway favorites, original compositions and personal stories, he discusses purpose, vulnerability, and the transformative power of art.
