Ways to celebrate Pride Month, Juneteenth and more around metro Detroit

Festivals, fairs and fireworks take over metro Detroit this weekend and beyond. Celebrate Pride Month with Downriver Pride in Wyandotte, check out a Juneteenth books, music and arts fair in Detroit. And the annual Ford Fireworks take place on Monday along the Detroit Riverwalk. Plus, enjoy a sunset at the Detroit Zoo, Japan Week at the Ann Arbor District Library, and more. One Detroit contributors Haley Taylor and Dave Wagner of 90.9 WRCJ share some upcoming events happening around Southeast Michigan this weekend and beyond. 

Upcoming Events:  

  • The Detroit Zoo hosts Sunset at the Zoo: An Evening Under the Canopy on June 20. The fundraiser features food and refreshments, live entertainment, a silent auction and animal encounters. 
  • Downriver Pride takes place at Parking Lot One in downtown Wyandotte June 20-21. The festival includes a bar and retail crawl, community resources and drag performances. 
  • The Novi Fine Art Fair takes place at Twelve Oak Crossing at Fountain Walk June 20-22. The art fair includes a variety of handcrafted works ranging from painting and pottery to metalwork and woodworking. 
  • The Juneteenth Books, Music and Arts Fair returns to The Commons in Detroit on June 21, bringing together Black authors, vendors, performers and artists. 
  • Ann Arbor Japan Week 2025 takes place at the Ann Arbor District Library through June 21 in partnership with the University of Michigan Center for Japanese Studies. This weekend’s events include a flower arrangement demonstration, a calligraphy performance and storytime with a music teacher. 
  • The Bay-Rama Fishfly Festival runs through June 22 in downtown New Baltimore. The festival features carnival rides, a parade and entertainment along the waterfront. 
  • The Lansing Fiesta and Carnival takes place at Adado River Front Park in downtown Lansing through June 22. The event celebrates the community with live music and food vendors. 
  • The Ford Fireworks, hosted by The Parade Company, return to the Detroit Riverfront on June 23. The annual fireworks show is one of the largest in the Midwest.
