Feb 24, 2026

Host Stephen Henderson sits down with the Rev. Dr. William Danaher, rector of Christ Church Cranbrook, and the Rev. Dr. Theodore Turman, president of the Ecumenical Theological Seminary, to talk about the launch of a new four-year initiative titled, “Faith in Detroit.” The three met at Christ Church Cranbrook in Bloomfield Hills to talk about the project led by Fr. Danaher and supported by a $5 million grant from Lilly Endowment Inc.

Fr. Danaher explains how the project will build a new ecosystem of compelling storytelling, focusing on how faith is experienced in Detroit and how Metro Detroiters have faith in the city of Detroit. He gives details on how the initiative will work, and he talks about the project’s collaborators including Detroit PBS, which is the lead storytelling media partner. Dr. Turman speaks to how the Ecumenical Theological Seminary is a partner, and explains what attracted him to the project. He also talks about the meaning of faith and the impact of storytelling on the Black church.
