Students are in this fall – but in Detroit, not all of them

This week’s COVID313 Virtual Town Hall for Families and Students has the story of the return to school in Detroit this fall.

Detroit Public School Community District Assistant Superintendent Chrystal Wilson provided an update. Wilson said, “We remain about ten points lower than the students returning last year.”

Ralph Bland of New Paradigm for Education’s charter schools said his enrollment is at 80 to 90%.

Rules are changing regarding access to nursing homes. Hear more from Michigan’s Long Term Care Ombudsman.

Access to nursing homes and adult foster care stopped because of the pandemic but some of the rules are changing.

Outdoor visits are allowed and some service providers can now enter.

Michigan’s ombudsman for nursing home issues told the COVID313 Virtual Town Hall her office has seen an almost 95% increase in calls from people concerned about loved ones.

Prepare your young student to work online

E-learning is here for so many more students thanks to COVID-19.

“Zoom fatigue is real and students are experiencing as well,” said Dr. Naimah Wade, Executive Director of 826michigan which helps students with their learning skills.

In this week’s COVID313 Virtual Town Hall, Dr. Wade said that first parents need to adjust their point of view to help their children take a more positive approach to online study.
