Eight ways to spend Fourth of July weekend around metro Detroit

Celebrate Fourth of July around metro Detroit this weekend with Clawson’s Fourth of July, a parade in Milford and the Folds of Honor Firecracker 5K in Ann Arbor. Plus, the Royal Oak Taco Fest takes over downtown Royal Oak and the Detroit Symphony Orchestra will perform the music of John Williams at the Meadow Brook Amphitheatre. One Detroit contributors Peter Whorf and Cecelia Sharpe of 90.9 WRCJ share what’s coming up during the holiday weekend.

Upcoming Events:  

  • Clawson celebrates Fourth of July with a parade, fireworks, carnival rides, live music and more July 3-4 at Clawson City Park.  
  • The 10th annual Flint Water Fest takes place July 3-5 at the Downtown Flat Lot in Flint. The festival includes a free concert, carnival rides, a splash park, pickleball and fireworks.  
  • The Royal Oak Taco Fest brings more than 50 food vendors and restaurants to downtown Royal Oak July 3-6. It also features tequila tastings, lucha libre wrestling, taco eating contests and more. 
  • The Milford 4th of July Parade takes place on July 4 along Commerce Street and Main Street, ending at Central Park. The parade includes veterans, color guard, first responders, marching bands and others. 
  • The Folds of Honor Firecracker 5K walk, run and ruck takes place on July 4 in Ann Arbor. The event includes a rucking division, a flag carrying division and a hot dog eating division. 
  • The Light Up Livernois Fashion, Art and Design Festival takes over Livernois Avenue in Detroit on July 5, featuring pop-up shops, local designers, art installations, live music, and more.  
  • The Otaku Detroit Summer Bash: Sunset Drive Edition comes to The Ann Arbor Marriott Ypsilanti at Eagle Crest July 5-6. The celebration of Japanese pop culture includes cosplay, panels, gaming and more. 
  • The Detroit Symphony Orchestra performs the music of John Williams at Meadow Brook Amphitheatre on July 6. The performance will include some of Williams’ iconic film scores, including “Star Wars” and “Jurassic Park.”
