Metro Detroit is jam-packed with events happening this weekend, including the Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra’s season finale, a spring market at the Chelsea Community Fair, and the Wyandotte Collectibles Fair.
There is also a Comedy Challenge Kickoff in Royal Oak and a celebration of what would have been Malcolm X’s 100th birthday at The Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History. Plus, enjoy a film screening with a live score during the KYLYN AAPI Arts and Culture Festival for Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month.

Upcoming Events:
- The KYLYN AAPI Arts & Culture Festival presents a film screening of “Jiraiya the Hero,” featuring a live score performed by musicians Kioto Aoki, Haruhi Kobayashi and Mai Sugimoto, on May 16 at the Ann Arbor District Library Downtown Branch.
- The City of Wyandotte hosts the first-ever Wyandotte Collectibles Fair at Yack Arena on May 16, featuring a wide variety of antiques, vintage items and collectibles. Parking for the event is available at Wyandotte City Hall.
- The Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra’s 2024-2025 Season Finale concert takes place on May 17 at the Hill Auditorium in Ann Arbor. The concert features performances of Katherine Balch’s “musica pyralis” and Gustav Mahler’s “Symphony No. 5.”
- The Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History in Detroit celebrates the life and legacy of Malcolm X in recognition of what would have been his 100th birthday on May 17. “Malcolm X at 100: Honoring a Legacy” will include discussions, performances and workshops about Malcolm X, the Civil Rights Movement and Black liberation.
- The Finders Keepers Biggest Spring Market takes place on May 18 at the Chelsea Community Fair, featuring vintage items, handcrafted goods and more.
- The Detroit2LA Comedy Challenge Kickoff comes to Mark Ridley’s Comedy Castle in Royal Oak on May 20. The event showcases local comics auditioning for a chance to fly to Los Angeles and perform at some of the top comedy clubs in the country.
- The Tipping Point Theatre in Northville presents “Lungs,” a raw, intimate story about a couple navigating love, fear and climate anxiety. The play runs through June 1.
- The Discovery Center of Macomb in Mount Clemens hosts Discovery Fridays every Friday, with new activities each week as well as crafts and popcorn.
