Metro Detroit offers events for Earth Day, Arab American Heritage Month and Easter this weekend. Plus, the Concert of Colors Neighborhood Series brings its “Gospel Meets the Blues” performance to Harpos Concert Theater in Detroit and the boy band B5 brings a 2000s-themed concert to El Club in Southwest Detroit. There are also performances of “The Addams Family: A Musical Comedy” at the Fox Theatre in Detroit and the world premiere of “Awakened” at Planet Ant Theatre in Hamtramck. One Detroit contributor Peter Whorf of 90.9 WRCJ shares a handful of events happening around the region this weekend.
Upcoming Events:
- El Club in Southwest Detroit hosts “Club 2000,” a 2000s-themed night of nostalgia featuring the boy band B5. The show takes place on April 18.
- Canterbury Village hosts the Canterbury Eggstravaganza in celebration of Easter on April 18-19. Children can take part in the helicopter egg drop, visit the petting zoo, play lawn games, and watch a magic show.
- The Arab American National Museum hosts the Yalla Eat! Culinary Walking Tour on April 19. Attendees can sample food from grocery stores, restaurants, spice shops and bakeries in East Dearborn.
- The Concert of Colors Neighborhood Series presents “Gospel Meets the Blues” at Harpos Concert Theatre in Detroit on April 20. The concert features Thornetta Davis, Rev. Robert Jones and the Jones Family, and Nikki D and The Sisters of Thunder.
- The Preservation of Jazz Monday Night Music Series presents “A Tribute to Phyllis Hyman” featuring vocalist Lady Vonne at Aretha’s Jazz Cafe in Detroit on April 21.
- “The Addams Family: A Musical Comedy” comes to the Fox Theatre in Detroit April 22-27. The musical follows the classic characters Wednesday Addams and her parents, Gomez and Morticia.
- The Outdoor Adventure Center in Detroit hosts Earth Day Crafts on April 23. Crafts are included with the price of admission.
- Planet Ant Theatre’s Farm Team presents the world premiere of its original production, “Awakened,” on April 18, 19, 25, and 26. The story is a retelling of the classic Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs fairy tale.
