The Corktown Music Festival brings a variety of music to the Detroit neighborhood this weekend, and the Livingston County Concert Band presents “Dance the Night Away” in Howell. Enjoy nature with Art in the Trees at Detroit’s Palmer Park and Whimsical Woodlands at the Johnson Nature Center in Bloomfield Hills. Plus, check out performances from The Farmington Players and the Malandain Ballet Biarritz at the Detroit Opera. Upcoming Events:
- The Farmington Players start their production of “Sister Act,” based on the film of the same name, at the Farmington Players Barn in Farmington Hills. The musical comedy runs April 25 through May 18.
- The Corktown Music Festival, which runs through April 26, brings a variety of punk, folk, country and rock music to nine venues in the Corktown Detroit neighborhood.
- The Detroit Creative Society presents Pieces of Detroit, a free arts and culture event celebrating the relationship between Detroit’s Corktown and Mexicantown communities. The April 26 event features a mural installation, live performances, food and resource vendors.
- The Malandain Ballet Biarritz comes to the Detroit Opera April 26-27 for an evening and a matinee performance and a pre-performance talk. Led by Artistic Director Thierry Malandain, the group is known for its choreography inspired by Vivaldi’s famous “Four Seasons.”
- “Threads of Passage: From Vietnam to America” by artist Linh My Troung is on display at the Annex Gallery in Highland Park April 26 through May 18. The exhibit, which commemorates the 50th anniversary of the end of the Vietnam War, features interactive installations about Vietnamese boat refugees. ds
- The Palmer Park Art Fair presents Art in the Trees, which brings large-scale sculptures, paintings and music to Palmer Park in Detroit on April 27, as part of its annual Earth Day celebration.
- The Johnson Nature Center in Bloomfield Hills hosts Whimsical Woodlands on April 27. Attendees can visit the Forest Fairy Village, get their face painted, do crafts and more.
- The Livingston County Concert Band presents “Dance the Night Away” on April 27 at the Rod Bushey Performing Arts Center in Howell High School.
