Celebrate Mother’s Day around Detroit this weekend with a Pre-Mother’s Day R&B Jam at the Fox Theatre and a Mother’s Day Run & Walk on Belle Isle. Plus, spend time outside at a yard sale in a historic Detroit neighborhood or the Back Yard Art Fair in Ferndale. There’s also a handful of upcoming performances such as “The Central Park Five” opera, “The Secret Garden: The Musical” and more. Upcoming Events:
- Motor City Entertainment Group hosts the Pre-Mother’s Day R&B Jam May 9 at the Fox Theatre in Detroit, featuring R&B legends Tyrese, Kelly Price and Keke Wyatt.
- The Players Guild of Dearborn presents their production of the “Ragtime” on May 9-11 and 16-18. The Broadway classic weaves together the lives of immigrants, African Americans and the upper class in early 20th-century America.
- The Back Yard Art Fair in Ferndale on May 10 will feature handmade goods by local artists, music and food trucks.
- The Goddess Racing Series hosts the Detroit Mother’s Day Run/Walk on May 10 at Belle Isle. The event includes 10K and 5K races, a 1-mile fun run, a 200-meter Kids’ Dash, handcycling and more.
- The Indian Village Yard Sale takes place May 10-11 in Detroit’s historic Indian Village neighborhood, featuring antiques, furniture, children’s items, home decor and more. The yard sale will also offer free flowers for mothers on Sunday while supplies last.
- Broadway in Detroit brings “Cat Kid Comic Club The Musical” to the Fisher Theatre in Detroit on May 10-11. The children’s musical is based on Dav Pilkey’s book series.
- “The Central Park Five” opera comes to the Detroit Opera House May 10, 16 and 18. The opera tells the true story of five young men who were wrongfully convicted and their fight for justice.
- The Grosse Pointe Theatre presents “The Secret Garden: The Musical” at the Parcells Auditorium in Grosse Pointe Woods through May 11. The musical tells a heartwarming story of loss, healing and rebirth.
