One Detroit Weekend: Things to do around Detroit this weekend: May 2, 2025

Metro Detroit offers ways to celebrate Cinco de Mayo, Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month and more this weekend. There’s also an antique market in Davisburg and an event that celebrates women from Southeast Michigan.

Plus, check out performances like The R&B Invitation Tour and “The Music Man.” One Detroit contributors Haley Taylor and Peter Whorf share a list of events and activities coming up around the region on “One Detroit Weekend.”

Upcoming Events:  

  • The KYLYN AAPI Arts and Culture Festival hosts Spinning The Thread of Life: The Documentary Shorts of Toko Shiiki, followed by a Q&A with Shiiki and Yen Azzaro, at the Ann Arbor District Library Downtown Branch on May 2.
  • The Detroit Symphony Orchestra invites the public to its relaxed open rehearsal May 2 for “Carnival of the Animals,” a performance designed for individuals on the autism spectrum and with other sensory sensitivities. 
  • The Birmingham Village Players presents “The Music Man” on May 2-4, 9-11 and 15-18. The musical follows Professor Harold Hill’s efforts to reawaken a town through the power of music.  
  • The R&B Invitation Tour comes to the Fox Theatre in Detroit on May 3 featuring R&B legends Joe, Musiq Soulchild and Eric Benét.  
  • Broadway in Detroit presents “Forbidden Broadway: Merrily We Stole A Song” on May 3 at the Fisher Theatre in Detroit. The production is an all-new version of the 1982 original. 
  • The Davisburg Antique Market comes to Springfield Oaks County Park May 3-4. The event offers everything from furniture, vintage clothing, jewelry, home decor and more.  
  • The 60th annual Cinco de Mayo Parade takes place on May 4 in Southwest Detroit, starting at Patton Park and ending in Clark Park. The parade features floats, music, dancing, food vendors, family-friendly activities and more. 
  • The Michigan Women Forward: 2025 WomanUp & Celebrate Southeast Michigan takes place on May 7 at Huntington Place in Detroit. The event honors seven local women who are leaders in their careers and made a positive impact on society.
