One Detroit Weekend | Things to do around Detroit this weekend: April 4, 2025

It’s home opening day for the Detroit Tigers on Friday and two comedy greats are making their way to Detroit’s Fox Theatre this weekend. Plus, Astronomicon 8 comes to the Ann Arbor Mariott Ypsilanti at Eagle Crest hotel. Also, don’t miss a handful of performances, including “The Book of Mormon” at the Fisher Theatre in Detroit, “Madagascar: A Musical Adventure Jr.” at the Macomb Center for the Performing Arts, and Dixon’s Violin Live at the Novi Civic Center. Upcoming Events: 

  • The University of Michigan Department of Theatre & Drama presents “Our Oz” on April 3-5 and 11-13 at the Arthur Miller Theatre in Ann Arbor. The play is a re-imagining of the classic “Wizard of Oz” story told through a BIPOC and queer lens.  
  • It’s home opening day for the Detroit Tigers as the team takes on the Chicago White Sox at Comerica Park on April 4. The series continues on April 5 and 6 in downtown Detroit.  
  • Astronomicon 8 comes to the Ann Arbor Mariott Ypsilanti at Eagle Crest hotel April 4-6. The pop culture convention features music performances, vendor exhibitions with comics and memorabilia, and meet-and-greets with various celebrities. 
  • Comedians Tina Fey and Amy Poehler bring their Restless Leg Tour to the Fox Theatre in Detroit on April 4-5. It will be an evening of jokes, interactive segments and a Q&A session after.  
  • Dixon’s Violin is at the Novi Civic Center on April 5. Dixon is a classically trained violinist who takes the instrument to different heights with a unique blend of melodies, harmonies and rhythms. 
  • The Macomb Center for the Performing Arts in Clinton Township hosts a production of “Madagascar: A Musical Adventure Jr.” April 5-6. The musical is based on the blockbuster DreamWorks film.  
  • Broadway in Detroit brings “The Book of Mormon” to the Fisher Theatre in Detroit for performances through April 6. The acclaimed satirical musical comedy was written by the creators of South Park.  
  • The award-winning Broadway musical “Chicago” comes to the Wharton Center for the Performing Arts in East Lansing April 8-13.
