One Detroit Weekend: September 8, 2023
We’re in the last days of summer, but Detroit still has plenty of fun to find in and around the city. Whether you’re attending the Greta Van Fleet concert or the Dave Chappelle show at Little Caesars Arena, checking out the Boat the Blue Antique & Classic Boat Show, or trying your hand at improv comedy, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. Check out everything you can do around town this weekend and into next week on “One Detroit Weekend” with contributor Cecelia Sharpe of 90.9 WRCJ.
List of upcoming events:
- Check out New Music Detroit’s 16th annual Strange Beautiful Music concert marathon at various locations like NewLab at Michigan Central and The Cube at Orchestra Hall through Sept. 9.
- Head over to Little Caesars Arena to watch Michigan-grown band Greta Van Fleet take the stage for their Starcatcher world tour. The band will perform alongside Surf Curse.
- Take a trip to Port Huron for the Boat the Blue Antique and Classic Boat Show, hosted on Friday, Sept. 8 and Saturday, Sept. 9. The event will feature classic wooden boats, live music and more.
- Get ready to laugh with globally recognized comedian Dave Chappelle, who’s performing his unique stand-up show Dave Chappelle Live at Little Caesars Arena on Sept. 9.
- Find your funny bone at Planet Ant’s improv nights every Monday, the longest-running improv show in Detroit. Doors open at 7 p.m., and the show starts at 7:30 p.m., followed by Barprov.
- Join the Ann Arbor Art Center Gallery for the opening reception, on Sept. 8, to its “We are here because you were there” exhibit. You can view the exhibit at the A2AC gallery through Oct. 22.
- Catch rising comedian, podcaster and YouTube personality Shane Gillis on tour for a raucous evening of stand-up comedy at the Masonic Temple Theatre on Sept. 9.
- You would not believe your eyes, but Owl City, known for its 2009 breakout singles “Fireflies” and “Vanilla Twilight,” performs at St. Andrews Hall on Sept. 12.
